Attitude helps winter athletes and performers adapt

Attitude helps winter athletes and performers adapt

By Nicolette Miller and Grace Sherman

Covid-19 has changed the nature of winter sports and activities this year at Judge Memorial. Athletes, dancers, coaches, and instructors are all experiencing the challenges of conducting their games and performances in empty gyms and auditoriums, wearing masks during practices, choreographing separately during rehearsals, and getting tested nearly every two weeks.

The disappointment of having to quarantine has been a reality for many, but the efforts to find a way to make it all work is in full force. This podcast dives into these challenges, their effects, and the way that members of winter activities are choosing to respond.

The girls on the Judge volleyball team were among the first athletes who experienced the effects of Covid-19 on their season. They experienced having to practice and play with masks, getting their temperatures taken before each practice, and having to quarantine for two weeks in the middle of their season. Their experiences and words of encouragement, found in the story by Nicolette Miller, “Quaran-team,”are similar to that of winter sports/activities participants, the overarching theme being ‘we’re all in this together.’

We’re finding safe and encouraging ways to get through these challenging times here at Judge Memorial. Athletes, dancers, and participants of all winter activities have had amazing attitudes with the support of amazing coaches and instructors, and hopefully, will continue to do so.
